Hi! My name is Sam and I started this blog back in September of 2013 when I moved to Madrid, Spain as a way to keep friends and family updated while I lived out my dream of living abroad. I spent a year there as a language assistant and taking trips around the beautiful and diverse country of Spain, thinking I’d ‘get it out of my system’ before coming back to the States and embarking on an academic career in archaeology, starting with a PhD program.
Nope, things didn’t exactly work out like that. Though I didn’t enjoy teaching, I had signed up to stay a second year in Madrid as I had fallen in love with the lifestyle (and short hours!). Cue life-changing experience on the Camino de Santiago, and I decided not to move back, but to keep traveling. I lived out of a backpack for the next five months, visiting friends and family across Europe, in Hungary, France, the United Kingdom, and Turkey. It was then that I realized the nomad lifestyle was for me. I didn’t get tired of wearing the same few pieces of clothing, and each day was a new adventure. Right now, I’m back at home in New York, writing and plotting my next adventure. Stay tuned!

My blog title comes from the following song, written by my favorite author, J.R.R. Tolkien:
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.
